Effective Use of the GAF Scale
in a Managed Care Environment

Statement of Need:
Clinicians must be able to reliably and accurately use a standardized measurement by which they can account for and document a patient`s progress.
Content and Format
This home study includes a one-hour CD on the use of the GAF scale, including 7 clinical vignettes, an instruction booklet containing 3 additional vignettes, a post-test and other materials required to complete the program for credit.
Course Objectives:
- Identify the different uses and contexts for applying the Global Assessment of Functioning (GAF) scale.
- Explain the structure of the scale.
- Apply the four basic steps in making a GAF rating.
- Analyze the typical GAF scores for particular symptom presentations.
